C, August 11 At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the State Fair it was decided to let a sub-committee arrange for putting in permanent boilers for machinery and also to electrically light the buildings and grounds at night. Bevcnty-five persons left here for Red Springs, Robeson county, to attend the Baptist Sunday School Chautauqua, which continues all this week. The eathering will be a large one. Five negroes were sent to iail by Mayor Russ to-day for throwing stones at excursion trains here: Tliey will all be sent to the penitentiary. The pen alty is severe in this State for this of fense. The Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railway pays a fireman, McCuiston, f2500, as a compromise for a strange injury. He was under the engine, clean ing out the fire-box, when another engine bumped the one he was under. lie was dragged over the glowing conls and hor ribly burned. lie sued the road for $5,000, under the new fellow servant lia bility law. Commercial travellers agree in report ing business as extraordinary good in this State, with heavy orders, and a line outlook "the best certainly since 1889.'' The State Board of Equalization of Taxes is to meet here on the 10th. It does not appear that, under the very defective law, it can do much this year or next. The North Carolina Bankers' Associa tion was incorporated by the Secretary of State, T. H. Battle, J. F. Burton and J. C. Hales being incorporators. Tho Busi ness Men's Association of Durham, was also incorporated, the incorporators being W. A. Slater. A. E. Lloyd, L. W. Vang ban, T. J. Lambert, W. H. Proctor. The semi-annual dividend $90,000 on tho North Carolina railway, was paid the State Tuesday. Tlia annual meeting of the State Farm era' Alliance has began at Ilillsboro. Some interesting developments are looked for nt the meeting of the Populist State Committee here today. Senator Butler is working like a beaver to have things go his way. C, August 10 Little Felix Bobbins, the six-year-old son of Mr. O. A. Bobbins, of Charlotte, N, C, was drowned while bathing at Carolina Bench at 0 o'clock this evening. The sea was unusually heavy and a big breaker tore the boy from the life line to which he was clinging: and swept him outward before the eyes of his horrified mother. Diligent rearch was made for the re covery of the body, but to no purpose. It's Healthful But it's awfully hard on velvety skins, A beautiful skin is a maiden's moid valua ble possession.
