Patrick of Soutberu Pines who has been instrumental in bringing emigrants to this State, says he has brought Uore and settled this year about 400 persons. That they are from the Northern States and all hare some proper ty, These new comers have settled in Moore county. There are a good many persons from Pennsylvania settled in Warren countr and about 000 more will come there shortly. Southern Pines ho widely known owes Hs existence to Sir. Patrick. The Progressive Fanner Is bucking up Governor Russell in his actiou towards Commissioners J. VV and 8. O. Wilson, and some claim that that paper is his weekly organ, but fails to give the name of his daily organ. The county commissioners have given the Agricultural and Mechanical College scholarships for Wuke county to J. S. Welch, Ho'ly Springs, end Wright Up- church of Swift crsek. In the report of the authorities it is given that there are 77 county convicts iu the work house, aud 54 inmates in the poor house. The penitentiary reciived an addition of six. convicts yesterday. Chairman Dockcry of the Board of directors has called a meeting for next week to oust the few remaining Democrats who are there In small offices. Many applications are still coming in to the State Auditor for pension blanks. The object of Governor Russell's visit to, Wilmington at this particular time is said to be to consult Senator Butler on what disposition shall be made of the two R. R. commissioners who have dared not to plead guilty of any charge his governorship may have charged them with. Senator Butler is spending Septem ber with his family in Governor Russell's cottage down on Wrlghtsville Bench. . J ue election yesterday resulted in a majority vote, for the issue of the bonds, of 837. This means much for Raleigh. The revenue collections in this district during August were $81,780.20. Of this $70,130 was on whiskey; $17,283 on cigars and cigarettes; and $51,807 on tobacco. The cotton crop is falling off rapidly. A month ago it promised to be a great crop a wonderful change has taken place within the last 80 days. Rust the result of the drought The corn crop report is not very good either. The inquiry blanks were cent out for September, so no Stato crop report for this month will be issued. It will be the first cf October before the exhibits in the new and old portions of the Stato museum will be fully ar ranged. But every thing will be iu beau tiful order before the Fair. Mr. Hyams the new botanist of the Agricultural and Mechanical College came today. The College opens tomor row. Inspector general, B. 8. Royster this morning inspected the Governor's Guards here. Lemon the right to erect a mausoleum to his mem ory in Arlington Cemetery. Lemon was a millionaire wbo at his death left ten thousand dollars to be ex pended In constructing a mausoleum at Arlington.
