It will be continued in Salisbury October 15. Mr. Thos. W. -Strange of Wilmington has been appointed standing master in equity for this district, the appointment being mudo by Judge T. R. Purnell and approved by circuit Judges Simonton and Goff and Chief Justice Fuller. The railroad commission today is hand ling the telephone rate question. Col. A. 11. Andrews and parly yester day returned from his delightful month's trip to the Pacific coast. GovernorJRusscll emphatically denies the interview he is credited witli in the Washington Post. Commissioner of Agriculture Mew- borne has received notification that after October 1st uutil November 10th no cat tle can be shipped from this State into Virginia. Tue , notification comes from the Board of Control of the Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station at Blacksburg. It will work great hardships on the cuttle raisers ol tne western coun;ics. Bids will be advertised for and the contract awarded for the 20,000 building to bo put up by .the Capital club of this city by October 10th. Mr. W- S. Bishop Cheshire of this State has re turned from his visit abroad. He has been gone three months. The commissioner of labor statistics Y. Hamrick will leave tomorrow to visit the different furniture factories and mines in the State. The mines in Mont gomery, Randolph and Guilford will be specially looked after. The Supreme court has heard argu ment in a case of general interest. The last legislature passed a law giving to clerks of Superior court power to appoint inspectors of timber. The constitution al iiy of tue law has been attacked. The Supreme court also beard argu ment in the case where the Slate Treas urer declines to pay the cost of the 695 oyster cases from Pamlico to the amount of $4,203. These cases were all consoli dated. The decision will be watched for ilh interest. State Department officials ridicule the slory attributed to Canadian sources that the United States is negotiating wijtli Denmark for the acquisition of Greenland. It is positively denied that the United States has any designs upon the territory in that part of the world. The Queen Regent of Spain has ac cepted the Cabinet's resignation, but has asked General Azcarruga to continue in office until a solution of the crisis is found. Her Majesty will summon the lenders of the various parties of the pres idents of the chambers to consult ns to the situation. Senor Sagasta has been telegraphed for, and it is believed Jjthat the Liberal leader will be asked to form a Cabinet. It is said that Senor Segasla is in favor of superceding Captain-Gen eral Weylcr, and of granting autonomy to Cuba immediately. The three days' session of the Labor convention in Chicago ended in a ciimax of incendiary speeches. E. M. Bannister, of St, Louis, chairman of the convention resigned Hie gavel to introduce a resolu tion advising strikers in general to arm themselves for resistance when neces sary. Fire broke out in .the central power station of the Capital Traction company, at Washington and in thirty minutes the magnificent six story structure doomed. The building occupies the entire block from Pennsylvania avenue toC street, and from Thirteen and One-half to Fourteenth streets.
