FTJTCRB Or TOBACCO IN NSW
BERNB.
T ho called meeting for next Mon
day night of the Stockholders of the
Nev Berne Tooacco Warehouse
Company, is a meeting the impor
tance of which is uot confined to the
stockholders of the Warehouse Com
pany alone, but affects every
citizen of New Berne.
The Journal lias uo question us
to the ability of the management of
the Warehouse Company, or that
next year will tea anything but a
greatly increased tobacco trade in
this city.
The reports of the ompany's busi
ness during Us first short season,
will undoubtedly go to show that
the Warehouse business has been
profitable, and that with even the
few months experience already ac
quired, the management will be able
to lay sucn plans for the futuro that
will nuke next year's Warehouse
businouS not only profitable, but
place the company in a position
which shall demand an mcrcase of
its facilities for doinjt business, in
order to meet the requirements of
the tobacco trade coming to New
Berne.
The Tobacco Warehouse Con
pany wili be able to prove the wis
dom of goinjr into business, as its
reports will snow, for it will bo
fouim, first,, that oveu with a short
season, with little knowledge, and
depending largely upon good for
tune in tne way of good tobacco
crops, in a section which was ex
perimenting in this staple as an im
portant crop, the Warehouse busl
ness has paid larger returns than ex
pected.
The Company has also seen do
monstrated that tobacco can be suc
cessfully and proGtably cultivated
in this section, which has hitber-
tofore been regarded as impractica
ble. Therefore the tobacco industry of
this section has passed the expert
mental period, as it is proven to be
a profitable crop to the farmer and
to the warehouse company.
The committee's report may also
show that there are important mat
ters id connection with the Ware
house, which can in the future con
ducting of the Warehouse, be
corrected and result in material
benefits to the stockholders.
With its past experiences, and the
same courage which prompted this
organization to build and operate
Tobacco Warehouse, the Journal
feels confident that the future for
Mew Berne ns a tobacco market is a
bright one, and the Warehouse pro
ject having safely passed its ex peri
mental stage, its officials will com
iTienee at once to plan and execute
for next year's tobacco business, o
that the farmers of this section may
be still further encouruged in their
tobacco growing.

Cared of Blood Poison After Fifty-two
Doctors Failed.
Blood Balm Co., Atlanta, Ga.
Gentlemen: In 1S72 a small
pimple .broke out on my leg. It be
gan eating and in four months 1
was treated by a physician of Talla
dega County, Ala., where I lived
eighteen years, lie relieved it for a
short while. In six weeks it broke
out again in both legs, also on my
shoulder. Two small bones were
taken out. It continued until 1876
In this time I had twelvo different
physicians. They told me the only
remedy was amputation; that it
could never be cured, for six
months I could not walk a sup. I
went to Mineral Wells, lexa, spent
:300.00; came home; went to Hot
Springs, Ark., staid nine months
all failed to "cure me. In 1887 I
came back to Birmingham. Ala. i
was advised to write you, which 1
did. You wrote me that B. B. B.
wonld cure me, and I could get the
medicine from Nabors and Morrow,
Druggists, of cur city. I bought
ten bottles and before I had finished
my fifth bottle my legs began to
heal, and in less than two months I
was sound and well. That has been
nearly two years ago, and no sign of
its return yet. 1 have spent in cash
over 1400.00, and B. B. B. done the
work that all the rest failed to do.
You have my permission to publish
this. I have traveled so much try
ing to get well that my cure is well
known. Fifty-two doctors have
treated me in the last 17 years. All
they did was to take what money I
had, and done me no good. I am
now a well man.

The Gaulois,- in Paris, recently re
lated in considerable detail that during
tb Siamese imbroglio of 1893 England
was on the verge of declaring war
against France. The power that opposed
the war most vigorously was Germany.
In fact, said the Gaulois, the war was
prevented by the German emperor.
"At that time," said the Gaulois,
"Emperor William was at Cowes with
his yacht He . bad won a regatta prize
from Lord Dunraven 'a Valkyrie and the
Prince of Wales' Britannia.. He appear
ed, literally as well as figuratively, to
swim in English waters. It was as be
sat at dinner in tho bouse of the Royal
Yacht sqjadron that be received from
Count Hatzfeldt the news that the Eng
lish governmeut intended to declare war
against France. The emperor rose from
the table, laid aside bis napkin and sent
a dispatch empowering his embassador
in London to protest against Lord Rose
bery's programme. Moreover, he be
took himself at once to Osborne House
to announce to his grandmother that he
never could approve such a course as re
gards Siam."
Sometimes Paris newspapers publish
articles on European politics that lack
all foundation in fact, and the amazing
story told by the Gaulois might have
been dismissed as one of them had it
not been confirmed at once by the Koel
uische Zeitung, probably the most trust
worthy journal on the European conti
nent. The Koeluische Zeitung's Paris
oorrespdndent was at Cowes with the
emperor iu 1893. As soon as the Gau
lois had made its statement he corrobo
rated it. Among the influential English
men at Cowes, he said, it was then
common talk that tho German emperor
was England's ally against Siam and
Franca Lord Dnfferiu, then English
embassador iu Paris, had come to Cowes
to couclude the negotiations for an alli
ance, but had been met with the emper
or's bluut refusal to take the active part
that England wished to assign him. The
Koeluische Zcituug's correspondent as
serts that the correctness of this state
ment is absolute and beyond question
