Each year teaches the practical farmer something in regard to what in best for him to do in the. year to come, as to the kind aud quantity of crops he can raise to, his advantage and profit. The farmers of this section will most likely in 1898 raise the same crops they did in.. 1897, but un doubtedly the acreage of these crops will be materially changed. The truck crop will of course be the first crop of interest ana impor tance, and the conditions affecting it; weather and price, cannot in any manner be' estimated at present, while the truckers at present arc doing everything to insure a good crop. In the reenlar home food crops, the farmers are going to provide fur their own wants on a more lioerai scale than ever, a.ud in securLig his own food supplies, the Eastern North Carolina farmer is going to more careful than ever before, in this veur of 1898. However the low price of cotton has affected the cotton grower in this section., there will be some cot ton planted and raised, but no doubt this acreage will be less than last rear. The principal crop, one which is going to excite greater interest than any other in this Bection during 1898, is the tobacco crop. The comparatively newness of this crop to this section, combined with its successful cultivation last year and the aid eiven to its cultivation -.. by the NowJJerne Tobacco Ware house Company, is going to-make tobacco raising oue of special mipor tmoe this year. That it is a money crop, oue of rnnrA certainty than cotton, was proyen last year, so that the farmers are going to rely Hpon it more and more as their money crop. In thi connection tho farmers cannot but feel that New Berne has . proven most truly their friend, as it . baa shown them the way to tobacco " culture." provided free seed tor them, and will give them a convenient and first class market where their crop can be sold at prices equalling those of the best tobacco markets of the country. That the crops of 1898 are going to be important factors in New liertie's prosperity cannot be ques tioned, and that the merchants of New Berne are extending their as sistance to the farmers in the culti vation of toba.:co, shows that the best of feeling . prevails between town and country, and thereby all interests will be benefitted by this co-operation. In the crop outlook for 1898, both the farmers of this section and New Berne have most favorable prospects of this being a good year for both city and country. Dwa'l Cbaag-a How Trk Addrru.
