The eagerness and struggles of men to get some political office, to aecure a place where the work is of a character which does not make de- mauds upon the individual of a na ture too exacting, merely shows that the tendency of most men is to acquire wealth and position, by methods of the quickest and easiest way. 1 It is the rudimentary process, which the young man of today, ab hors. V y:. t Tlwy are all anxious to get rich, to secure government office, to .take municipal positions, but how many applicants are really fitted for the offices they aspire to. It is a lone, slow way, which the young man of today seen before him, in his desires for wealth. The Labor of study, of beginning at the very first point of a profes sion, of learning thoroughly its rnd iments, such work is of too protaic a character tor the average young man of today. , 'The tabor and anxious thought of getting the first thousand dollars, is what makes the successful merchant . or banker. It is the winning of the first law case that gives the lawyer the start but how often is failure recorded caused by the distaste of having to plod along slowly, instead of at once being given the fee along with the case, The unprosaio labor of digging bait chills the fisherman's ardor and the unproeaic work of learning thoroughly the rudimentary pritci . pies of a trade or profession, dulls the enthusiasm of the youth, who thinks to spring at once iuto wealth and position without taking the elementary steps towards securing them. , ' The exceptional individual who may escape the rudimentary process and secure position and wealth, merely proves that however prosaic labor may seem, yet through it is found the real success, and wliib it may appear the long, tedious path by which to attain power, yet with out real labor, the learning of the rudiments of any profession at its very fonndutiou, there can be no perfect success. The rich men of thej world will be more numerous, and there will be fewer men without work, when the Toung men show themselves willing to go through the rudimen tary process thit shall lead them to wealth and successful positions. Twenty years ago England bad 11,618 uus and 14,901 female schoolteacher Last year there were 68,810 female and only 36,170 male teachers. The SuptiM ef AU.
