They thought they would get their money yesterday.. The company and line officers will be paid for one month beEinnlne Aoril 27tb: the field and staff officers' from the time they re ported for duty. It will require from sixteen lo twenty thousand dollars to pay the Second regiment. Orders have been received to increase tho force of corporals from six. to twelve. Drilling has been suspended until next week on account of so many sore arms. , Two more deserters have been arrested at Salisbury. Major General Brooke has requested Colonel Burgwyne to name a suitable Lieutenant for detail for Judge Advocate for General Court' Martial. He has not as jet named the man. Major Charles L. Df.vis, of Charlotte has been detailed to fill the vacancy caused by Major E. M. Hayes', promo tion. Major Davis will report to the Governor, and be assigned to duly at once as militaryjnstmctor for the State uuaru. General Cowles has been n stifled that only one Major would be allowed to the colored regiment now being organized at Fort Macon, lie will make every effort though to have two, for otherwise there will be a row between the aspir ants. There will also be only one adju tant if the above order is carried out. With fewer officers there will be less en thuslasm. The Second Regiment wishes to return thanks to the ladies of Raleigh, and will probably give a ball iu their honor on July 4th. Tho regiment on that day will march through the city solhat" the citizens one and all can sec them. The ball will be given at the Fair ground, and the regimental band will furnish the music It is just learned that on Sunday, W. P. Sawyer of Hertford, an inmate of the insane asylum here fell while walking, and struck his head on a bench and fractured his skull. Ho only lived a few hours. Tho Bagley Monument fuud has reached $1,8211.88. Contributions come in slowly now. General Cowles has re quested of Col. Burgwyne to see if the Second regiment will not as a regiment make a contribution, each private as well as olllcer to make a small contribution. The Naval Reserves are restless about being mustered into service and Adjutant General Cowles has telegraphed the off! cer in charge of the reserves, Admiral Erbon, to know it they are not to man patrol boats. One company had 700 lbs. of provis ions sent them a few days ago, and they ate it all up for one meal. It was thought it would Ust a day or two. The war department declines lo pay for the preliminary examination of vol u n leers before they leave home to jot the dlfforent companies.
