The Second Reg iment marched through the principal streets, and had inspection drill, and dress parade facing the Executive Man sion ot 0 o'clock this afternoon. At night the city celebrated the glorious 4lh with beautiful fire works at Pullen Park, Tomorrow night the military ball given by the officers of the Second Reg- imont inmnlfmpntarv in tlifl Inrlipfl nf "" " e " " k. Raleigh, and the members of the Capital I 5 Club will be held at the Agricultural and Mechanical College. The place at the Fair grounds where it was first in tended to -hold the ball had to be aban doned because it was too near the hos pital. Three hundred invitations have been issued. A soldier from Bertie county was on Saturday arrested for murder of his wife. Ilia name was Bazemoie, but he had enlisted under the name of Moore, lie was recognized by parties visiting here. President Kllgo yesterday reviewed the controversy between Judge Clark and himself as regards iiis management of Trinity college, and his accepting the cifls for the college from Mr. Duke. He says Judge Clark was rather late in pro testing against these gifts aftor he had voted with the board on the resolutions of thanks. Dr. Kilgo does not handle Judge Clark very gently, and many think and sav be does not handle him unjustly. The news that reached here today from the battle at Santiago again casts a gloom over our .city. Lt. W. G. Shlpp of the 10th Cavalry was killed and Lt. Frank Cameron wounded. While 1.1. Shlpp was not a native of Raleigh, his mother aud sister now live here, and his wife Is a Raleigh girl, being the daughter ot Mr. Fab II. Busbee of tUs city.
