STRIKE REPORTED ENDED.
Details ta be Discussed. Price of Hard
Coal WU1 Row be Hither. -
Special to Journal. - .
Philadelphia, Sept. ID Tbe anthra
cite coal miner! -strike was practically
settled at the conference In New York
city today: ...
The discussion is now merely a ques
tion rt detail. Tbe baste tore eetile
ment of the strike proposed includes aa
advance In wages and a reduction In the
price of powder, so that the earnings of
all glasses of mine workers will be in
creased, His said, 10 per cent.v Tbe
terms will be submitted to the striking
employees of each company regardless
of any dealings with the United Mine
Workers' officers.- The terms are such
that tbe miners are expected to -ac
cept.
Several thins; have censed a change
in the operators, who aow wish to end
tbe strike as quickly as possible. Among
other things, the miners have developed
unexpected strength and a long wait is
ahead if they are to be starved out. The
anthracite users are rnnnlng short of
coal and threaten to change grate bars
and ate soft coal.
It is conceded by the coal operators
and dealers that after the strike ende tbe
prices on anthracite coal will never be as
low as before.

blatant demagogue are being relegated
to their proper position. The best ele

American institutions and a gradual but
growing Influx of American capital is
alter all tbe most potent argument."

How Short Is Your Cotton ?
The.above Is a question usually naked
a farmer, and the Journal seeking Infor
mation made the query, and from two
farmers learned as follows:
Tbe first was about a tract of five
acres, and the answer was not much ol
a crop, but four bales were gatberc I
from It.
The second, was answered, "aboni
half a crop," and upon further investi
gation It was found that fourteen bales
had already been gathered, and It was
confessed fourteen more would proba
ta picked. .Lsstyear twenty-four bales
was tbe product from tbe same land.
These may be eicepttons, but the cot
ton farmer hereabouts oeed not feel badly
over his crop, considering price and
other things wbich msy have somewhat
reduced his yield.
