It ia the best fair ever held in the State. Three thousand peo ple were on the gronnda yeaterday, mainly diverting their attention to. the "Midway." All day today exhibits were being received and tonight everything is complete. There 1b a wide variety of amusements. Among the week's events here, will be the meeting to form the State Literary Society, Tuesday evening; the cotton ginners convention, Wednesday; the to bacco growers' convention, Wednesday; the State fruit shippers' convention, tho annual meeting of the Confederate Vet erans, to elect officers etc, and the State Farmers lltance executive committee all on Thursday; the inter-collegiate foot ball game Friday between Blackaburg and the North Carolina Agricultural and Meanical College teams; the interstate shot gun tournament Thursday. Today the registration for the Novem ber election began. It ends with this week. Twenty convicts from the penitentiary and L'O from tho Anson farm wero sent yesterday to the Roanoke farm, to pick cotton. The officials say over 000 con" vlcls are now gathering cotton and that it will nil be picked In 20 days. There s'c '2.10 convicts In the penitentiary. The crop of cotton will be a largo one.
