The honae committee on railways last eveoiog con sidered the bill to abolish first and sec ond class rates on railways and establish a flat rate of 3 cents per mile. This is desired by railways. The com mittee decided to report it without pre judice. Philadelphia, Feb. 19 Old Dan, for 18 years a faithful fire horse and the pride of Engine Company No. 18, went to bis last Are yesterday. Old Dan and bis male, Jim, pulled the big engine faster than ever' it seemed, and their destination had been nearly reached, when driver Harry Etcher noticed that Dan was staggering. Jim, however, only worked the harder and as the clang of bells increased other fire companies approached, Old Dan sprang forward with renewed vigor and dashed on swifter and swifter. Finally tbe scene of the fire was reach ed, and Old Dan, panting and trembling, fell to tbo pavement dead. Attack on a Joint Results In Killing Bar tender Wife. Liatbnwobth, Kan. Feb. 10. Mrs. Rose Hudson, wife of John Hudson a joint" keeper at Hllwood fourteen miles north of this city, was shot and instantly killed last night during a raid pon her husband's saloon. When served they rapped on the count er, evidently to give a signal. Hudson jumped from behind the bar and grap pled with one of the men. Mrs. Hudson attracted by the noise, ran screaming Into the room while a mob of men, most of whom wero masked, entered in answer to the signal. In the melee tbat followed another charge was fired from the sbot-gun. It truck Mrs. Hudson tearing off the top of her heal William Webb, ono of the raiders, was struck In the shoulder by a revolver bullet, Nearly a hundred shots were fired.
