Ad editorial digest or the State' newspapers on the Legislature of 1901, would prore interesting reading These editorial opinions would show a wide range, from the perfectly satisfied view by the any-thlng-Deinocratlc-is-good newspaper, to the strong eipica slons from the newspaper which recog nizes humbuggery and hypocrisy, and refuses to sanction them, even by its own political party. A complete or eren partial editorial digest on this subject is not available at this tlm. but the Joohnal cannot help noting a few editorial expressions on the Legislature. The Raleigh Post, after giving expres sion to a feeling of relief, that the new Revenue bill had many of it objectional and dangerous measures eliminated, says: "Lst all go to work now to build up the St it. And especially let the business people, of all Vocations, co-operate la putting down those demsgogues In the State who constantly make war on legit imate enterprises of the people." The Charlotte Observer, in an editori al expressing gratitude that the Legisla ture's Revenue bill was "Not as bad as was Feared," advises. "That all hands go to work now to build up the State's Interest and sit down on the pestiferous demsgogues who are trying to tear them who never try to help, but always seeking to hurt some individual or Interest, who live off the men of energy and enterprise and who are yet forever warring upon them because of the mistaken notion that the paupers and blackguards are a majoalty In North Carolina and that the way to popularity Is by attack on thrift and decency." The Greensboro Telegram, in a com parlon of the Legislature of 1809 and 1001, says: "Speaking broadly, we should say that the difference between the Legislature of 1899 and the one just closed Is the difference between statesmanship and politics. Carrying the analogy further, it could be said that the legislation of the two bodies might properly be char acterized, the first, as a result of the oon ciouscesi of the people of the State that a crisis had beea reached, as an expression of the united will of the State's best citizenship on certain ques tions; and second that will having been accomplished as the pleadings largely of special or Ninth interests. By this we mean simply that the Leg islature of 18M operated on a high plans, the members wr Impressed with ths solemnity of toe situation, and sobered by the responsibility that rested upon teem." "They came In Impressed with the duly of righting (real wrong, and they went straight for their object without shadow of tnrnlsg. "The Legislature ef 1901 came In bb der different clreamslaaoss. What Forty Pole. Make. A goed story Is told about a certain professor whose business it was to lec ture to a number of students on sur veying. During one of the lectures, the professor said that lu his opinion the pole wns of little ov no value. To the nstonlshment of those present a Polish gentleman arose and, after accusing the professor of Insulting his country men, demanded an apology. The professor thereupon explained that the pole to which be referred was merely a term of measurement. The Polish gentleman, seeing his mistake, asked the professor to forgive bis ap parent rudeness. To this the professor smartly replied: "You could not be rude, sir, even if you tried, for It takes 40 poles to make one rood!" Qwlte Fit. Piflkliam's The great Woman's Remedy for woman's Ills. . No other medicine in the world has received such widespread and unqualified endorsement. No other medicine has such a record of c-v :.:nalc troubles or such hosts of grateful friends. Do not be persuaded that any other nxuLmo is just as good. Any dealer who asks you to buy something else when you go into his store purposely to buy Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound, has no interest in your case, lie is merely trying to sell you some thing on which he can make a larger profit. He does not care whether you get well or not, so long as he can make a little more . money out of your sickness. If he wished you well he would without hesitation hand you the medicine you ask for, and which he knows is the best woman's medicine in the world. Follow the record of this medicine, and remember that these thousands of cures of women whose letters are constantly printed in this paper were not brought about by " something else," but by Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound, Tho Great Woman's Remedy for Woman's fa. Those women who refuse to accept anything else are rewarded a hundred thousand times, for they get what tliey want a cure. Moral Stick to the medicine that you know is Hcst. When a medicine has been successful in restoring to health more than a million women, vou cannot well say without trying It, "I do not believe it will help me." If you are ill, do not hesitate to get a bot tle of Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound at once, and write Mrs. Pinkham, Lynn, Mass., for special advice. It is free and helpful.
