The Fnb lie Does Not Expect Goarlc tlon. Senators Will All Be Present. Street Talk. Special toJonrnl. Raleiou, March 25. In the Impeach ment trial today F. H. Busbee concluded hia argument la two hoars on behalf of the defense. He said that the impeach ment managers were attempting to Im pose on the lay members of the Senate account of their ignorance of the law, He was succeeded by B. F. Long who made a superb argument for the defense, peaking four and a half hours. His argument was to show that it wis im possible to convict the judges under the articles of Impeachment. It is now agreed by both sides that the impeachment trial will probably end Wednesday. The impeachment fide Bay the rote wll be very close but that the the judges will be couvlcted. They say the judges will not be convicted for opinions but for "breaking Into the treasury." The general public has not the least belief that there will be con- iction. The clergy, the lawyers, the business men oppose impeachment, and say so. It It something with which fho public has no sympathy and expres sion a to that effect are plain. The coun sel for prosecution know well that the rial has no backing. It is said all 50 senators will be here ana ready to vote. A senator ears there will be no long executive session, after arguments end, but that all will be ready to vote promptly. The judges are confident of a acquittal. They have entire confidence in the Integrity of the Senate. A gentleman widely known In the State said to me: "I.hear all sorts of ru mors and believe none lof them. For i ample, a man said to me today that the Dukes are spending large sums of money to secure acquittal. With whom are they spending it? queried my Infor mant, for you know it could be spent on ly with Senators and you know that is untrue, Then the man said he had heard a man say so He went on to name two Senators who were ap proached. My Informant said this was clearly a llo in the face of it; that one of the men named did not even have friendly relations with the Dukes." An official said, that his impression wai that the judges would not bo con victed, but that they would be censured for a merely technical violation of the aw. He said it was obviously impossi ble to prove wilfulness and that sort of thing; and that the evidence certainly did not show It or prove It. The accused judge themselves appear to be entirely confident of aoqulltsl. They have entire confidence in the In tegrity of the Senate- My Lady Breakfast is Well Served when the hot-bread, hot roll or muffin is Royal Baking Powder risen.
