Germans Willing to Snare With United
States and EdflaaavT ; .' ' ".
WAsaiaoToa, June 16. Deep laterest

The Bun that German colonisation In
the southern part of Brazil was to be
augmented by ths operations of a syndi
cate Just formed, with s capital of 19,-
850,000.:;. ' ,?.:' ' -- i- -
The Widespread " discussion in the
United States and Germany as to the In
tentions of the1 letter country in South.
America ' has aroused the sttentlon of
ststesmen of the whole world. Whether
German capital and enterprise are mere
ly engaged In extending the German
population in Brastl for the purpose of
holding sad extending German trsde, or
whether this movement is ths forerunner
of an attempt to acquire territory under
the German flag, all information tbst
drifts to Washington from Brazil
points to a steady growth of German In
fluence, --' ' -
It Is mentloned'ss a significant fact
that German Geographers hsve already
begun' to print across their maps of
Southern Brssil the words "German col
onies In Brazil." Throughout the en
tire Republic of Brazil German mer
chants, bsnkers, travelling salesmen,,
promoters snd lsnd speculators are dis
cussing the prospect of s lsrge portion
ot Brazilian territory ultimately passing
under the German flair.
Information that comes to Wsshlng-
ton Is that one favorite German plan Is
to divide Brazilian territory Into three
psrts the northern section to go to the
United States, the middle eastern sec
tion to Greet Brltsln, snd the southern
ststes, where German Influence and
German population predominate, to
Germany.
The moat Interesting fact that comes
to Wsshlngton regsrdlng Germsn colo
nization snd enterprise In Brazil is that
the Germans thoroughly assimilate with
the Brazilians. Many. Germans marry
Brazilian women and cultivate the Bra
zilians socially, whereas the Americans
and Englishmen hold aloof.
