V The Company, Unable to get Coal to -,' Operate Its Plant, - Boahokb, V.; June 25 In accordance with an order from General Manager Johnson, of the Norfolk and Western Railway, who is now in the Pocahontas coalfields rushing railroad repair work in the region recently devastated by the storm, a notice was posted at the Roan oke Machine Works this morning clos ing the shops at 12 o'clock today. The1 notice stated1 that the shut, down would be for only a few days and was due to the fact that no ooal is now pass ing Over the Boad. Crlinjj pinaV Fatalities In West Virginia Flood Not So 'Great. Financial Loss is Heavy. Bldkmbi.d, W. Va., June 25 When might fell to day on the Elkhorn Valley the mystery of 00 miles length which has been as a sealed book since the cloudburst ot Saturday, was still unre vealed. From Vivian to where the Po cahontas branch leaves the Elkhorn at Williamson the report has been re ceived. All that Is known Is that there has been flood 75 miles long, and that in a space of 15 of these 75 miles (2,000,000 worth of property and at least 20 lives were wiped out. But nothing camo from Ihe remainder of the valley. The exploring party report discover ing about five unburiod bodies along the stream. It is probable that not more than 24 persons lost their lives. The Pocahontas branch, made clear by to day's report, is more than half wiped off the map for a distance of 73 miles. With this trackage have gone the numerous tidings to. the collieries and lumber operations. While tome progress was made in restoring the tracks today, It wtt Insignificant compared with what It yet to be done. General Agent John son hat only 1,000 men working today and in fonr dayt hat succeeded in es tablishing connection only for light traffic from Maybcrry to Norfolk, a dla tanoe ot six miles. The Pocahontas re gion supplied 00 per cent of the freight that originated on the Norfolk and Wes tern system. :Jl JHE MARKETS.,. The fo'lowiog quotations were receiv ed by J. E. Latham & Co, Mew .
