National Bank, about which there have
been rumors of trouble for ieveral days',
today closed Hs doors.
It was rumored that a big Stock Ex
change firm was .in great trouble, and
might have Tb suspend.
The announcement of, the
Seventh's
closing started a sharp Belling movement
in stocks, with the tendency of prlceB
downward:
According to the bank's last statement
to the New York clearing house for the
week ended June 32J," the Seventh Na
tional had a capital of $370,000; net
profits $834,460; loans $4,407,100; specie
$557,700; legals $777,700; deposits $3,
718,400; circulation $998,800.
According to the official statement
covering the period Opto the close of
business on April 14, the government
had $810,883 on deposit with the bank,
all postal funds, which is a fair average.
To secure this the government held $250,
000 In bonds.

of the American Tin Plate Company's
officials with representatives of the
Amalgamated Association of Iron, Steel
and Tin Workers, which has been In
session here for several days past, has
resulted In the signing of a now wage
scale to go Into effect July 1. Tbe
workmen asked for an advance of 2 per
cent Nearly 80,000 men, it Is stated, will
be benefited.
Navy Needs Sailors.
Washtkotoh, June 20. Men are
wanted for the enlisted force of the
nsvy tocomplote tho authorized strength
of 28,000. Tbe apprentice system Is .over
,000 short and the regular establish
ment about tbe samo number, with poor
prospect of being fully recruited during
the present summer. Over 900 sailors,
whose terms of enlistment had expired,
were discharged within the last three
weeks from the Aslallo Btatlon, and ss
each ship returns home Its crew almost
to a man will be discharged. At this
rale the Navy Department finds it Im
possible to maintain the service at Its
full strength, although every recruiting
station Is active In enlisting men.
