Dovbb, July 1 Quite a little excite ment was created here Saturday -nlglit botween ten and eleven o'clock. The oause ot the affair was about as follows: The family of Mr. T. h. West had re tired except two of bis girls who were preparing to retire. One of them was sitting close by a raised window, un dressed, waiting for her ' sister to-" say her prayers and In the meantime she happened to part the curtains to the window and there saw approaching within arms reach, a negro. They, both, terribly exejted ran io their father's room and gave the alarm. Mr. West Immediately started to Investi gate and by the lime he got out . of the house he saw the negro running bat shortly overtook him. By this lime Mr. West's son appeared on the scene. The negro seemed to think he was going to be sboj as bo kept saying, "riease aon t suoobgne, wnicu they would not do if he would be quiet, but he snatched away from Mr. West and began fleeing. They ordered him to halt but to no effect. Then young Mr. West began shooting at blm and kept It up until the negro cloared the yard but was soon overtaken by Policemen Sut ton. Upon Investigation it was found that one ball had struck him in the back and made a right serious wound. Dr, Ray Pollock was summoned and probed for the ball but could not find it. The negro died today about three o'clock He said there was nnother man with him. He told sovoral stortos as to why be was there. The general opinion is that they were loitering and secreting themselves around Mr. West's yard to commit some dastardly crime and wore simply waiting for the chance . Coroner J. W.
