Crop Bulletin for the week ending Mon
day, August 19th, Is as follows: .: ,
The past weA was remarkable - for
heavy rains from the 12th to 14th, and
subsequently light showers untij the
close. Creeks and rivers were again
very much swollen, .and in- some sec
tions the freshets were reported to have
been the highest .for the- season; much
damage was caused by overflowing
streams in the west and south, and many
fields were badly washed by the heavy
downpour, particularly In 'Franklin,
Halifax, and Mash, counties, where the
total rainfall for 84' hours on the 14th
varied from S to 7 Inches. - The temper
ature, was about 4 degrees above' the
dally normal, and the hot sunshine and
high humidity during the latter portion
of the week caused a very sultry atmos
phere, and . some crops fired on sandy
land or low . places. -No farm work
could "j be accomplished during the
week, and weeds and grass grew rap
Cotton in some plaees improved some
what, and In1 very ; favored localities,
with a good autumn, nearly a full crop
