Such Mast be Hew Ships For Ravy. Ad miral Dewey's Idea. Wajhihoton, D. C, November 83. After months of discussion the Construe tion Board has agreed on the design of the new battleships Congress is expected to authorize at the coming session. The vessels are expected to be by far the largest, swiftest snd most formida ble battleship! yet designed by any na tion, and completed will cost something over $5,000,000 each. The Board will decide that the new vessels shall have the plain turrets, and It Is understood that both Admiral Brad ford and Captain Blgsbee, who have stood out for double turrets, will sign the report la agreement of this. The speed of the ships Is definitely fixed st 19 knots, which will mskehem the speediest vessels of their size in any aavy. Their horse-power will be 16,600, or more than that of any British battle ship, snd their displacement will be a little over 18,000 tons, or 600 tons larger than say battleship In the world. Under direction of Congress the Sec retary of the Navy was required to draw plant of the best type of battleship and armored cruiser the experts of this eoun try could devise, and under their dl rec ti oa the Construction Board snd the General Board have worked. Admiral Dewey .does not agree that the vessels should be so heavy or have so mush speed. Thess features, beholds, are not so essential as heavy protection and formidable batteries. The main battery of the new vessels to be eonttraoted will compromise IS Inch gunt as the heaviest, with sevens aad sixes oa the sides. Harvard the Victor. Special to Journal . OiMBRiDoi, Mass., November 23 The foot ball game hero today resulted, Har vard 22, Yale 0. Cambildge, Mass , Nnvomber 22. To day's game between Harvard and Yale practically closes the football season, with the exception of the game to be played on November 30 between Yale and West Point and that on Thanksgiv ing day between Pennsylvania and Cor nell. All over the country to 3 1 ball en thusiasts are eagerly awaiting the out come of the game, for It practically de cides the championship. Both teams have been playing good football, and It is hard to make a selec tlon. In the contest the mala reliance Is to be placed In the respective scores made against West Point by the two teams. Harvard defeated the soldiers, 0 to 0 by the hardest kind of work, while Yale tied them 6 to B and looked at one time as If she wero about to go down In defeat. Yale has been the favorite In the bet ting, with the odds at 10 to 9, but to night the Crimson Is taking even money The former oddt wat largely due to the fact that tradition polntt to a Yale vic tor In 28 yean Hsrvsrd has won only three times, In the following years, 1875, 1890 snd 1898.
