Lelghton preached an er eellent sermon in the Christian church yesterday, also one last night. Mr. B. E. Windier returned from Swansboro Saturday, where he had been spending a few days. A mad dog passed through town this morning, but he was pursued and killed. Mr. E. A. Rhodes fired the fatal thot. The Epworth League will hold their meeting on the second Sunday In the afternoon on account of preaching that night. They will also dispense with" the meeting on the third Sunday afternoon and night entirely, as the Bright Jewel Society meets that afternoon and Rev.D. . Geddie preaches that night. Our merchants are complain ing of short collections. Some of them say they will collect SS per cent. We hope they win not be so unfortunate. Mr. Kenneth R. Hay, one of our most progressive farmers, Is beginning work oa a handsome residence at his farm a mile below here. Mr. W. J. Crosby, goneral agent for the Southern Express Co., was here last week looking after express matters. Quite a lot of marriages last week, some of them were, Mr. N J Lesry and MIts Annie Bryan, near Pollocksville; Mr. Russell and Miss Maggie Howland, at Belgrade; Mr. Chas. Oreen and Miss Mollle Littleton of Swansboro. We wish the happy people a long and pleasant lite. Cotton Is on the move upward, good cotton brought 7.00 here last week. Mrs. C. H. Foy returned from New Bern last week. Mr. John Collins, a young white man of Onslew county met with a very pain ful accident last Thursday. He was load Ing his gun when It fired off, the load striking the muscle of his arm and tear ing part of It away.
