Donald Mac Rae of Wilmington, who is here, says the electric railway from Wilmington to the coast at Wrlghttville will be com pleted In time for the summer trade. Work Is now In progress. -'' Daring the past year the Btate library acquired 1,069 book. Of these 85 were about North Carolina or by North Caro linians. The 19th volume of the Btate Records has appeared. There will be one more volume and then the general Index.' The 8d volume of the North Carolina Regimental Histories was delivered to the Btate Librarian today. The chief clerk to the Btate superin tendent of publlo instruction says the latter today began the seventh week of his attack of pneumonia. He says the superintendent's cough Is bad, his tem perature rises nightly and his left lung has not healed. Secretary Brunerof the agricultural department left today for the Charleston EipoBitlon. He says the exhibit of the department there is J rompleted. It is so admirably laid out that what yet re mains to be done Is simply changes to Improve the effect. President Huirh G. Chatham of the North Carolina railway has just returned from Charleston. lie sajs that the North Carolina exhibit is tbe best there and the only complete one. Quite a number of North Carolina cotton mill are rep resented in the 'cotton palace", many are not The railway which is to bo built from Klnston southward, Is to strike the At lantic Coast Line at Warsaw. The road will be 66 miles long. The Klnston peo ple wlil build it to Hallsvllle, and the Wilmington lumber interest will build from Wallace to Hallsvllle. The grounds of the State Normal and Industrial College at Greensboro,, now very bare, are to be beautified. George Fostor Peabody gave to the College for a park $10,000 and of this $5000 Is to be at once expended. In the spring there will be some notable visitors to the col lege, among them, President Elliott of Harvard. Tbe Norwood Cigar company of this city has the largest factory in the Stale. The Directors of the North Carolina railway" of which tbe State is I owned, met In the Governors office today and declared a 8 per cent, dividend. ; It is the largest ever declared heretofore. Price, 25e. t Ten Men In Flooded nine. Negaunee, Mich., Jan. 8 Officials of the Negaunee mine now say that 10 men. and nossiblv 13 are still under ground. General Manager T. F. Cole, of the United States Steel Corporation, arrived in the city by special train today and he Is now at the mine assisting other offi cials in planning to recover the bodies. Men were at work all night putting In addltlonad pumps to reduce the water In the drift where the men are entombed and if possible prevent the mine from flooding. The additional pumps are work ing, and the water is under control. Mine bosses say it may take a week to recover all the bodies. Fifteen passen gers were killed and twice that number were Injured. Gas was struck' this afternoon in a well which was being bored for salt at the Cleveland and Barnla Sawmlll.Company's plant In Barnla, Ont., lust Across the Bt. Clair river. - It was Immediately Ignited by a stove in a building adjoining the well and the company's plant and surrounding build ings are now in great danger from the flames. Present Commissioners Jones, Wads- worth and Wood. ; Ordered that Item of solvent credits being $1000 In 8th township listed to R A Richardson be stricken from the list and the sheriff Is ordered to reimburse said Richardson to the amount of the said solvent credits he having paid his taxes Including said solvent credits. Ordered that the solvent credits listed by J H Lokey of $2600 bo and Is hereby stricken from the list as it appears to the Board that the said solvent credits had already been listed In the mill prop erty owned by Lokey and Cannon and said $8600 was double taxation.
