The highest monthly mean was 75, at Southern Pines; the lowest CO, at Linvllle. The highest absolute tomporature was 09, at Southern Pines; the lowest 31, at Bre vard. Tuttle delivers oceaslonul shots in behalf of temperance. Last night he made statements con strued by W. H. Baxter as reflecting on him. This morning Baxter visited Tut tle and demanded explanations. Warm words followed, Baxter saying: "If It were not for my respect for your cloth I would jump you ss quick as a bag would light on a potato." Tnttle replied by divesting himself of his coat and saying; "I place my man hood on a level with yours. Don't stand back because of my cloth." Baxter de manded that explanation be mode pub licly.
