I hereby announce myself as candidate for the office of Constable for the Eighth Township, subject to the decision of the Democratic primaries. D WIGHT M. STY RON. For Constatils 3rd Township. Upon the earnest solicitation of many friends, I wish to make public announce. ment of my candidacy for the office of Constable for the Third Township, sub ject to the decision of the Democratic primaries. A. W. AVERY, Cove, 3rd Township, To The Democratic Voters of Craven County. The many friends of Sheriff J. W. Blddle desire to present his claims to the voters of Crsven oounty for reoomlna- tlon and reelection. The county hu never had a better officer, he Is courte ous, accommodating, faithful and In every way thoroughly competent When a vacancy occurred In the office of Sheriff, oa account of the resignation of ex-Sheriff Einsey, the Board of Com mlsstoners endeavored to ascertain two things: first, who wu the most compet ent man In the county for the office, and second, who would be most acceptable to all the voters of the county. They finally selected Sheriff Blddle as they were satisfied Ihst he filled these two qualifications better than any other man In the county. He hu only been In of fice a part of one term, and It would not seem right to refuse to endorse his ad ministration the first time he comes be fore the people. The people are fair and just and would not Intentionally dis honor sny man without cause. It hu been claimed that all of the candidates are from the town of New Bern expect one. This Is not strictly correct; three of the County Commissioners are from the country, and two years ago No. 1 Townshlnhada most excellent candi date for Register of Deeds who would nave been sleeted It his own township had soDDOrted him properly. Sheriff Blddle was born and raised at Fort Barn well and lived there until the war came on. when he entered the service of the Confederate States aad wu a most gal, but and faithful soldier. The people can not do too much for the men who suf fered and fought for ths Booth during tb war. . Of all ths candidates upon the ticket Mr. Blddl Is the only representa tive of ths soldier vote. It is trus a man ought not to be selected to fill an office because he wu a brave soldier, bat when ha la la every way competent, the peo ple ought not to forget such servloes as tbes. While Mr. Blddl Uvea In New Bern, he wu born" and raised' In the country and still owns the lands where his father lived before aim, ,-. ', W do not wish to disparage any other candidate, a ell tb candidates for office la this County sr good and tnsaws. whose- paM services to-the Democratic party merit recognition and entitle them to aspire td any. offlos In the County; But w do say that w do not wish to east any reflection upon Sheriff Blddl by refusing to eloot him when he hu only served pert of one torso; i We bare never heard of aalo. stone when s good man capable and competent, who had been appointed td the office of BnerW hu not received the nomination st the hands 6f his party at .npF-Mvlln Conrentlon.
