Strange to say everyone of that 15 was for Overman, They were called one after the other, while people literally held their breatfi. Another curious thing about the vote Thursday nleht was that two Watson men were "paired" Glenn with Moody, It appear to the belief of many per son that the Watt liquor regulation bill will set a favorable report from the Joint committee. The liquor men are making their main fight on the London blU. Col. W, T. Dortch of Goldboro la their chief counsel. He ha had an of- floe here for a fortnight or more and Is working very hard. Much interest 1b felt in the bill char terlng the Audubon aoclety and protect ing song and lea bird. The (laughter of the term and gulls has practically ex terminated them, but with protection tbey will again multiply. A man named Gould, in Dare county, I the one who slaughter bird for milliner' use. He hire men to shoot them. The shooting I largely done during the breeding sea- ion, "dust" shot being used. Of course the young birds, their parent killed die In the neets, and the .eggs decay. The committee has so amended the bill that it does not'confllct with local laws rega latlng the killing of game Mr Is. The law a to these 1 shamefully abused. Mr W W Smith of thl city during a recent trip to the coast found that the people who shoot by. "fire light," at night, were killing 50 or 00 ducks at a shot. These law breakers will bo knocked out of their, nefarious bnslneaa by the game Wardon provided for by the Audubon bill.
