A number of bids for the new State bonds are being received by Treasurer Lacy, as the bids are' sealed, he does not know for what amount they are. ;The State publlo printing board, of which Governor Aycock s the head met today andladvertlsed for bids for the State printing for the next two years, A commission was today Issued to Rev. Alpheus McOullen of Oxford as Chaplain of the 8rd., regiment. N. O, 8. Q. Sheriff Home, of Halifax today brought five convicts to the penitentiary, one of them a negro, to serve five years for forging a f 500 check on the Scotland Neck Bank. He would have been given a longer term had not a physician Btated that he was mentally unbalanced. A charter is granted to the Myrtle Grove Baildlng and Trust Co., of New Hanover county, with leave to run on operate eaw mills, steam boatB, shell road, barges and flats, hotels, and otber resorts on Myrtle Grove Hound, also to ship fish, etc , capital $25,000. Another charter is granted the Ivy Mill Co., to manufacture cotton fabrics, capital $133,000; place of business Hick ory, A. A. Shunrd and other stock holders. State Auditor Olxon today received his appointment from Governor Aycock as the State's representative to famish the U. S. War Department with Infor mation regarding North Carolina's Con federate troops. Auditor Dixon said he would get actively at work at once, so as to lose no time in securing the Infor mation. The Southern, S. A. L. and Norfolk and Western Hallway will be given a hearing by the corporation commission March 28th, regarding the Union Depot at Durham, la ordsr to see whetbor the design submitted by tbo Southern Rail way is satisfactory to all. Very few persons can bo found who believe that the Haywood murder case will be tried next week. The remarka ble reticence of the attorneys continues. It is very natural that as regards wit nesses, etc., there should be reticence but there seems no reason for It, as re gards an effort to secure a contin uance. Two doputy sheriffs went out to a snb- erb of Raleigh last evening to arrest D, Russell, a deserter from the Navy, who also charged with assaulting and holding up a man for robbery last Sat urday night. Russell was found at his father's home, he ran and was Bred at three times. His father claims he is un der Si years of age. Copies of the new pension law were today sent out by the State Auditor.
