Later on a gale rising, the anchor was found to drag, and all efforts to' save the Victoria were of no avail, she was quickly blown ashore, where she now lies high, and dry. ' The dew, twenty-five, all told, and four hundred passengers, mostly Portu gese emigrants were saved by the orew of the Portsmouth Life Saving, station, the passengers were taken to Portsmouth and cared for by the station. This stage line was continued until the North Carolina railroad was built. Whec only twenty- one Mr. Morlng married Kllzabelh O' Kelly, the grand-daughter ot Rev. O' Eelly, the IntlmMe friend and cl&Be-mate of.Thos. Jefferson and the founder of the Christian denomination in Virginia and North Carolina. Mr. Morlng mer chandized many years and went. to New York, frequently when it required - four days each way tor the trip. He attended the First World's Fair which was held in New York. . For mere than fifty years Mr, Morlng has been a deacon In the-Ohrlstlan church and for many years he was the treasurer of the South ern-Christian Church Convention.
