Century, and had passed his hundredth
birthday several years ago.
In his early manhood be waa bought by
David Sanders, later one of the most ex
tentlva and wealthy planters of Onilow,
and. wm a, faithful and trusted lervaut of
that gentleman Until the close of the
wax which gave him freedom, after which
though advanced In age ho drifted to
this county.
The writer knew ''Uncle Sip" upwards
of thirty years ago, and at that time he
was oontlddred a very old man, but waa
fairly active, and until' atout . ten years
ago was able to do much towards earning
hie support. Since then his sight began
to fall until he became completely blind,
and for several months before ; hli sum
mons the old man has been helpless- :
The old darkey led an Industrious
life, he waa 'honest and truthful, and
was respected by all who knew him. .
