The tem perature wa about normal, although there were a few cool days. The rains were , general and occurred mostly on the 27th and 28th. A number of corres pondent. however, report rains nearly every day durng tne weeic. ine northeastern south-central and a number of northwestern counties received exces sive amounts, and the soil in each of these lections is too wet for cultivation, and I considered entirely too wet for a healthy growth of cotton. In the north eastern and south-central parls Of the State there Is some comphiots of shed ding, due to excessive rains; in the lat ter section, where the rains have been excessive for some itline, the cotton is becoialtng weedy and in a few fields the plant I growing too rapidly. In the other parts of the State it Is growing satisfactorily and, as a whole, promises exceptionally good results. It Is bloom Ing and fruiting freely, and the i quaree are well formed and well distributed. The stands of corn are excellent and the crop promises to be the best for years. Tobacco has made satisfactory growth during the week, but on an average u considered only a fair crop; curing U becoming1 general In the eastern and in s number ofconnlics in tho central dis trict. Threshing still continues, but tot season Is nearlng completion; the yieldi are everywhere satlsfaclory. I'e.-s are growing well, and some field) are being cut for forage. In the extreme western counti s, haying is in progress with good results, although the weather hit not been favoiabl ) for this we jk. Pea nuts In Hertford county are slightly backward and the elands are not satis factory; no repor s have been received from elsewhere. Sweet potatoes, gar dens, and all minor crops are doing well Watermelors are beginning to fljod thi market in the eastern section, and are beginning to ripen in the western counties; the quality Is variable, but generally Inferior. Apples continue tc fall, and will bo a short crop; peaches will be more plentiful; grapes are begin ning to ripen, and although there It considerable complaint of rotting, a fait crop I anticipated.
