With the aew school year to open In a few weeks In the ratal dittrlcU, there li much for those Interested In school Improvement and betterment to do, to meet the conditions which tonfrontt erery school district In the way of greater educational equipment, for there should be some change for the better, some Improvement In erery school house, in every school district, before each new term begins. Many school districts are receiving help from the State Board of Education hi the way of loans from the State fund to aid the people In the district applying and receiving the money to either re model or better equip their school hous es. These loans are made payable In ten years, with Interest at foul per cent, oae tenth of the interest to be paid each year. Of oourse there are conditions which govern these loans. But besides this Btate aid, every echool district should do something, through its people, for the betterment of Its own schools, In the way of im proved school premises or new equip ment, or both. The local organization for the better ment of the public shool house, ought to be In every school district, and through its members a careful visit should be made to every school house an examination made of Its needs, and so far as possible these needs be sup plied. In many school houses there may be found so much to do, aa to almost dis courage those seeking to improve, but the more necessary want can be first looked after and supplied, tor no school district Is too poor for Its psopie not to make some sacrifice In order that Its children may be better taken oare of at its publie Bohool, and no sehool Is so well equip ped, but that something may be added to Its improvement , for the help of its pupils, And no Improvement which Is made In a district, la school house betterment should affect even to one day's time the duration of the term of Its school, for in addition to school house betterment, there should be an equal determination among the people of every school dis trict to Increase the length of the sehool term, for longer school tarns are as as. sea Hal at the better equipment of the school house, for the sueoeas of educa tion In North Carolina. -ry ,x 1 SSStf' ithrarf.
