State Auditor Dixon was asked what he would specially re commend in his report. He said he had no right to suggest a matter cf the kind to the legislature, but gave it as his pit vate opinion that It would be advisable to omit from the revenue act what h known as the Merchant's Purchase tax in view of the fact tint there Is now $ lSJ.OOO.OOO more of property liated for taxation than there was on the tax books In 1000. It U lils view that this tax and other petty taxes be dispensed with so far as the State is concerned and that these matUra be left to the counties. They have chosen the name of Vance rides named after North Carolina's Illustrious son and statesman The boys organized themselves and elected their officers, and arj enthusias tic in their work, Everybody who may find it convenient to do so abould be out and witness the performance of these boys on the s reel and the public will surely almhe the drill. Major Moss, who is commandant and has Immediate charge of the military division is not only a capable officer but an excellent disciplinarian.
