SCHOOL HOUSE, BUENED, Total Loss by fire of Colored Graded School Baflding. -BuUdleg Tendered to BchooL A very lerloni Ore In every way.occar red here yesterday, resulting la the total destruction of the large frame two story building on West Bt, occupied by the Colored Graded School. The first alarm was about 11:10 am., and the fire was found to be around a defective flue. IThe fire was thought to be extinguished and the scholars In that wing of the building were sent home The regular school closing was at 2 p m and In less than thirty minutes after wards, flames were seen coming from the building. The lire had worked be twees the walls,' whloh were sealed, and secured such hold that before they could be gotten under, control, the building! was completely wrecked. Tbe loss Is placed at U.OOO, although It Is estimated that thl building could ngt be replaced for lees than $4,509. There was $1,500 insurance. It Is ex pectcd that the school trustees will de termlne In a day or two what will be done about continuing the sohool. An official of the New Bern Collej iste ludustr'al Institution, colored, called at the Journal office, just after the fire, and said the use of their building wss tendered the Graded School management so far as they could use It, while other arrangements were being made. A veiy thoughtful and cocslderate ac', and It may be that the offer can be accepted, for some of the school grades. ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION, Of Russian Ei-Ohlef of Police by S u- dent Moscow, Jan 16 in attempt to as sassinate Gen. Trepoff, who was lately removed aa chief of police, while he wss bidding farewell to Grand Duke er;e at the railroad station, who was also re moved from office, has arouied police activity. A thorough search Is being made for tbe assassin. Trepoff lad In curred a deep hatred of students and young man appeared suddenly aa Tre poll waa shaking hands with the grand duke and Bred three shots at Trepoff. All missed.
