Blades came in pos session of the New Bern Knitting Mill in November 1903. The plant was then ina condition from a mechanical stand point that operatives worked at a" great disadvantage; the machines being slow and hot furnished with, the accurate and automatic mechanism which gives the work perfection all of which was' a handicap to the securing of large bus mess. The plant has since the occupa tion by Mr. Blades, been thoroughly overhauled and supplied with new and modern machinery, the best that the market affords. New devices and ma chines are being received constantly. There are in the plant three sets of machines which are used for the man ufacture of. the goods. They consist of 40 sets of ribbers. 28 automatic knit- teres, 18 standard knitters and loopers. The goods manufactured at this plant are misses'and boys hosiery exclusively The capacity is 250 dozen a day and the demand is large and increasing all the time, They have orders from all over the country and are encouraged by the reports of sales. ' The employes at the plant number sixty persons; -fifty of whom are wom en. The mill like all other industrial concerns of New Bern confirm the ap pearances of prosperity and increased business facilities.
