T B Raturnsd by Mr Jerwy to North Caroiiu; Trenton, May -After Beveral weeks delay the Governor of New Jersey will say to the Governor or North Carolina: "The Beaufort Plowboys' flagwill ntw be returned." The delay was due to the fact that somehow, after its adop tion by the Legislature, the concurrent resolution providing for the return of this relic of the civil war was lost some where in the shuffle, Clerk Parker, of the Assembly, came to Trenton, found the records complete and straightened out the matter. M Pearsall, resigned. The governor saj s the turnpike, which is between Wilkes Doro and Jetteraon is within four mil s of the top of the Blue Ridge mountains now and the work is being pushed rapidly. A well financed syndicate, he says has been looking over the road recently with a view to purchasing it and constructing in connection with it a good electric line both for passengers and for developing the lumber interests which are among the finest in the coun try. The very first case that was tried in the new police justice court, justea tablished under the amended city char ter is to constitute a test case to de termine the constitutionality of the new court, tne contention being that the police justice is given unconstitu tional authority in the trial of misde meanors John Duffy was fined $26 for selling wine. .Heretofore the mayor has had to bind such offenders over to superior court but in this case the po lice justice Imposed the fine and the de fendant has given an appeal bond. Wilmington Messenger 5th. - ; , Quiet once more reigns In the city of Wilmington, the political situation hav ing been amicably adjusted and it now looks like the new administration is go ing to work In harmony There can be no question now about Col. Waddell notl being duly elected mayor, for he was unanimously elected by the board yes terday afternoon and at the meeting all the aldermen appeared to be in the best of Bpirits and none of them showed any riiHnnflition to block legislation. When the public learned yesterday morning that a special train had sj out of this city on Wednesday night, carrying two attorneys to Clinton, where they were to see Judge piiver H Allen and get him to grant a restrain ing order to prevent Col Waddell from becoming mayor, there was much apecu lation as to what would be the outcome There was a eeneral feeling of relief when it was learned that Judge Allen had not granted the restraining orde fnr thev felt that this beimr the case the matter could be settled in a far more friendly manner. 1 The attorneys who went to Clinton stated that it was very late, or at least very early in the hoino about 2 a. m. when IIVUU.B, C3 - thev reached Clinton and that judge Allen, after hearing briefly the circum stances, said ne wouia now bhu ment on the matter until that day ai 11 clock and from the tenor of his re marks it was thought extremely doubt ful about his granting a restraining or der. He furthermore stated that he could not see how a restraining ordei could help the situation as Mr. Springer was in Dower and could call upon me police if their services we're needful and if necessary call upon me govemur. Mayor Springer was not willing to fol low such a course and furthermore said he would not follow this course. Fairbanks Cot tolene in 2 and 41b. tins atlOc lb.
