Trustees Meetina Election of
Teachers..
A meeting of the Board of Trustees
of New Bern Academy will be held at
the Citizens Bank Monday" afternoon,
June 6, 1908 at 4 o'clock.
The meeting is called for the election
of Superintendent and 'Teachers of the
City Graded Schools for the next
scholastic term. '
By order of the President .
W. M. WATSON,
Secretary and Treasurer.
Now Bern Tukss First Gims el Seasons Large
" r , Crowd Enjoys Sport. v
The first regular game of the season
was played yesterday at Blades . Park,
the LaGrange dub being the opponents
of the New Bern club, fvi'y,..:
The weather was ideal for ball' play
ing, and this with the local interest . in
the national game, brought' out a big
crowd, which was well repaid, for while
there was no sensational features in the
game, there were interest in every inr
ning, for the score was so small that
any kind of a rally by the visitors would
have made the result doubtful.
The bright particular star was John
Patterson, who besides pitching effect
ual ball, fielded his position splendidly,
his catch of a line hit and assist in a
double play in. the sixth, being specially
gOOdr -' . "
Both clubs played good games in - the
field,; few errors being made, The
pitching of Parks was puzzling to the
New Bern players, who have been prac
ticing against speedy balls, while Parks
pitched slow ones. Mumford's catching
for LaGrange was good, and Parks, B.
P. at second did some good work.
What was specially pleasing was the
snappy flaying all around, there being
no delays, the game being played in
little over an hour. The baseball pub
lic will a ways appreciate games in
which there are no delays
Decision Soon For Peace or War.
8t Petersburg, June" 2-St Peters
burg is full of tumors of the most con
tradictory character regarding the pros
pects of peace, but in the best informed
quarters the associated press was. told
that no definite decision had been reach
ed. Nevertheless, it is persistently re
ported that an imperial manifesto may
be expected within a brief time. This
manifesto, it is creditably- reported,
will proclaim the immediate convoca
tion of a national assembly to which the
question of peace or war will be sub
mitted, thereby shifting the burden of
a decision from the shoulders of the
emperor to the whole nation, and rob
bing agitators of the opportunity to
make revolutionary capital out of , the
decision whichever way At may , be
taken. , ,." ;
