C, Aug. 9. 1905. , OFFICIAL ETHICS Pittsburg Gazette. , 1 It is clear there must be a higher standard of official ethics. Prom every man in public office the .people have a right to expect his full a,nd undivided service. He should not use the oppor tunities in his power to feather his ovn nest, or his family's, or his friends' This is ethical idealism almost unat tainable, it would appear, for self is ever paramount in all men's lives, yet the time is drawing nigh when idealism of this very stamp will be demanded of all public servants. The uproar that is raised now about petty peccadilloes of this nature itr an indication of the turn j ublic opinion is taking. . It is not too much tj expect that as our ethical con victim s grow more pronounced, the general conscience will crystallize into an unwritten law. "No man can serve two masters." If he would serve the State (which, of course must fully com pensate his service), he shall not use State to promote his private interests. And in time to come such cases as that of Moore and the much worse cases of Senator Mitchell and Statistician Holmes will be as rare as simony and nepotism are in our day, just because the ethical consciousness of ' civilized man has taken one step higher. Public Is Aroused The public is aroused to a knowledge of the curative merits of tnat great medicinal tonic, Electric Bitters, for sick stomach, liver and kidneys' Mary H. A Warning to Mothers. : : Too much care cannot be used with small children during the hot weather of the summer months to guard against bowel troubles. As a rule it is only necessary to give' the child a dose of castor oil to correct any disorder of the bowels. Do not use any substitute, but give the old-fashioned castor oil, and see that it is fresh, as rancid oil nauseates' and has a tendency to gripe. If this does not check the bowels give Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera ' and Diarrhoea Remedy and then a dose of castor oil, and the disease may be, checked in its Ihcipiency and all dan ger avoided.' The castor oil and this remedy should be procured at once and kept ready for inBtant use as soon as the first indication of any bowel trou ble appears.
