But while the herring and shad con tinue to come at their, season, yet the old chub and jack fish are fast disap pearing from the waters of the Roa noke far far away up among the "hills of dare" the fish hands have broken and the German carp have been turned lo'-se-aud bid fair to supplant the native chub and jack fish of these waters. Along the hills of the Roanoke are the finest springs of purest water, so cool and refreshing to the traveler. The people as a whole are very kind and hospitable to travelers.'
