Investiga- ;ion into the killing of Watson Jerni ran, moonshiner in Duplin county by leputy revenue collector Downing, re- zeals the fact that the illicit distillery where the killing occurred, vmost proba cy belonged to Nick Rogers,' moon- ihiner and counseller who 13 a product f RollesVille, this county. Your cor espondent procured from a high of- lcial of the goverment today a very interesting story about this man Rog :re. He was convicted of counter feiting here about ten years ago and sent to the penitentiary. He returned jo the State arid set up a moonshine till at Newport, a few miles this side forehead City, was arrested and sent to jail at Beaufort, whera the sheriff tl lowed him the run of the town, for for which offence against the Federal law Judge Seymour imposed a heavy ine upon the sheriff, Rogers having es- .aped. Hewaa so daringthat he turn- id up at Newport again and for many ears operated a moonshine outfit there, lodging the officers with great skil', but finally was arrested and taken to Beaufort, where a United States Cora nissioner very foolishly allowed him to rive bond for $200, Rogers of course leeing and forfeiting this and his bonds nen paying it and the commissioner tarrowly escaping . dismissal from of ice for his carelessness tn the mat er. - . Raleigh, Dec 21.-r Governor Gleiui acted today in regard to three epplica tionB for pardon. He refused clemency tb Jordan Jones, of Tyrrell, who was convicted of retailing whiskey without license and sentenced to three months on the public roads, the governors comment being that the sentence was light enough. He refused to pardon Joe Mason, convicted in New Hanover of secret assiult, the comment being that the act was wilful and. deliberate and with intent to kill. In the case of Claud Boyden of Rowan, convicted' of larceny and sentenced to two years, and who has served one year, the gov ernor grants a conditional pardon, on the recommendation of the judge and solicitor, the co-defendant in the case having made an affidavit that Boyden was not present when the crime was committed and knew nothing about it. Revenue officers made a (raid Sunday nightand near Wake Forest, after capturing a still, went to the house of a negro where they found whiskey hiddenT This man is charged with moonshining and he made his escape from the officers but strange to say he came here and surrendered himself to the United States commissioners. One day it would scab over and then crack open and a watery matter ooze from it and the scabs would all fall off. It would be raw for a time, then scab over again. Some one recommended Cuti cura, and we immediately procured a box of Cuticura Ointment, and a cake of Cuticura Soap. She was much bet ter after the first bath with warm water and soap, and an application of the Ointment. Before it was half gone we saw a marked change for the better, and she was entirely cured, without a scar being left, bv the one box of Oint ment and one cake of Soap.
