C., Dec. 27.J-The cor poration commission today save out its report on the condition of banks in the State at the close ot business Novem ber 9th. The showing made is a very remarkable-one. The total assets are $41,095,639, an increase over one year ago of ho less than $9,491,356, ' Thew are 238 banks,: and one year ago there wee only 183. The deposits subject to checks aggregate 27;720,128. Th re port shows in the clearest sort of away a great prosperity of the State and the increase in wealth and general develop ment; State Treasurer Lacy's condition was improved today, members-of his family stated. He has a mild attack of pneu monia, and they say he will be out in a few days. " The Governor was delighted at the Sunshine rChristmasJFestival last night given to the poof children of the city, who were out by the hundreds. He said: "I desire to say that it is one of the very finest nights I ever saw in my life. " The Governor was as full of in terest in the matter as the children themselves. The executive committee of the State fair will meet on Friday, and will wind up the affairs of the last fair, which was the mpst successful in all the long history of the association, and will also make many plans for the new year. In- luded in these Will be material im provements, alterations, and addi tions to the present buildings, the grading to the front of the grounds, etc. Thero was a very great increase in the attendance over that of any pre- ious year. Mr. Joseph G. Brown, the president of the Associated Charities says that he fully believes Raleigh d es more for the poor children, in the way of gifts and entertainment than any other place f its size in the country. The amount of attention' paid them here is more than gratifying. A charter is granted the Clayton Drug Company in Johnson county, and several amendments to charters of minor corporations were authorized by the Secretary of State today. r , v 1 - OASTOXlXAi i b' J u . tt . 1 1 A...-AA Signature . . r Best Raisins 20c per pound at is War Fine line of wild geese, brant and ducks at Coast Line Market. -JWard Appleby Mr. William B. Identified with , all that is truest and best: in human con duct all life's: noblest :, ideals weie signalized by her lifeVvx'.'V. In the social sphere , she numbered her friends ' by scores, " and none has been a purer, or a .more f charming ornament to society, or graced 4ts cir cles in a more excellent and intellectual manner. Many wouMT)ear willing test imony that, the social world has been he better for her having lived in it. : She bad her place in the broad realm of christian benolence, and filled it nobly. 1 For years the Secretary of the New Bern Female Benevolent Society. She was faithful to the charge com mitted to human hands iy the Savior when he sa d: "For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good," She was lever well qualified with the "will," embracing every floating opportunity for doing them good. To this she was devoted, not merely iniin official ca pacity, but whithersoever there was need, her willing feet hastened and there she ministered with a loving heart and a liberal hand. Unhesitating testimony is borne to her unserving fidelity, as a christian and member of the New Bern Presby terian church. Activity associated with its devoted band of noble workers. She did well her part, and the ripened re sults of her consecrated effort can be told only in the. opened books of etern ity, where, when the gathered fruits of faithful toil are laid at Jesus' feet, it shall be known how large a part she took in the aggregate of loves labor. Her hand shall be missed . from the toils of her loved church, but let none despair only let her untiring zeal and sweet devotion because the inspiration of the living, and the Lord of the har vest shall crown their activity with ever enlarging fruitfulness, and at last, together around the throne, all shall sing a glad 'harvest home." There has closed a life which may well be said to have been the embodi ment of the excellencies of true woman hood, the exemplification of the graces of the spirit, and a pattern of personal pity, full of the labor of love. Now the laborer's task is o er; -Now the battle day is past; Now upon the farther shore Lands the voyager at last. Father, in thy gracious keeping Leave we now thy servant sleeping.
