" No better illastratioa can bo found of what Well directed energy . and per severance will accomplish for a young man, than that in the ease- of Mr, M. Duffy Lane of this county, who live st Fort Barnwell. With a few. hundred dollars slowly saved op from economi cal efforts, Mr. Lane in 1838 determin ed to branch out, and seeing a good op portunity by in vestment in farm and timber lands, he entered upon a career which today finds him a substantial and . respected citizen. Mr. Lane's method has been to pur- Chase farms which have been neglected by previous owners, and acre of tim ber lands which seem to have no spec- j lal value. The farms are improved. and when of large, extent are cut up to suit new tenants, who are brought from other sections. In this way the section j of the county in which Mr. Lane lives j has been improved and developed, and his own and adjoining property more I than doubled in value. While financial i success has come to Mr. Lane, his few hundred dollars being increased so that it is now estimated he is .worth $100, 000, the result baa been obtained only through hard and intelligent work, with persistent day after day, and month after month efforts. Although but a few years over thirty Mr. Lane has already become a citizen of great worth to his community, be cause he has created value and given intrinsic worth to properties which hitherto had been unproductive, and of practically no commercial value. The progressive spirit which Mr. Lane has shown in the lefjinning of his business career shows no diminuition, he is active and alert today, and his t.rHde trnnS' actions run up into the thousands of dollar, each. All who come in contact with liirn are impressed by his energy and pu.h, and Craven county in fortu nate in having such a citizen. Mr. I.ane is a young m:in of good personal nanus which have largely eon tribute to his euw.,cus. In this brief iketeh of one of Craven county's young nv.-n, nut oroves what ipcnriun:tie for MiiiTrss ran be found here and which a weli directed persona! endeavor can accomplish. It is the story of suc cess coming not through many advan tages, but by personal energy and an intelli.nl perneveraoce. Tbe rgs!sr spring term cf U L'nU td 8Ul rwirl ttmrmn at II o'clock lomorr.
