I Ceatral ef Georgia HarrlaMa fret- erty. Atlanta, Ga, March U.-i tt.Hat- rlman, having ' defeated Stuyveaanfe Fish and retained control of the Jill- hols Central, has authorized' the offl- eial announcement that, he Is owner of the Central of Georgia ilway. lllarrlman makes, thta announcement through" the Georgia Railroad Com-, mission, to which he . impartedL the fact of his ownership some time ago. but asked that it not be made pub lic' untU tha fight for the control of the Illinois. Central, was settled. Chairman Mclcndon, of the com mission, says; that,, tha Central was aakd soma time ago. to furnish the names of iSrowners, and Major J. F. Hanson president of the road, and vicepraaident Winburn, called upon the' commission and said that they had come by direction of Mr. Harriman himself to bring the Information that it was Mr. Harriman who had pur chased the road. It was explained that the sale made by the Southern Railway to Oakleigh Thorne and Marsden J. Perry, of the Southern's holding in Georgia Central stock, was to Harriman; that Jxe paid $3,000,000 for the stock, and that Thorne and Perry received a com mission of "5 per cent or $150,000 for negotiating the transaction. Chairman McLenden says that the commission was requested by Mojor ilanson to withhold the Information from the public for a reasonable time for the reason that it was Harrlman's Intention to transfer the road to the ownership of that road as in liti gation. This request the commission granted, and it has withheld the in formation until now. Chairman Mc Lendon says that as the litigation to which Hanson referred has been ter minated by the establishment of Har rlman's claim there remains no rea son why the -facts Bhould be further withheld. By the acquisition of the Central of Georgia, the Illinois Central gains an outlet to the Atlantic seaboard at Sa vannah. The Illinois Central and the Georgia Central make physical connec Hons at Birmingham, Ala., In the statement made to the Georgia com mission It was estimated that if Har riman lost control of the Illlonls Cen tral he would turn tlie Central . of Georgia over to the Southern Pacific and connect the road by building a lme from Montgomery .to New Orleans.
