Ash 9 vi lie J eb '&-A sad case oi non compoa mentis, recently reported to the police authorities, culminated today when officers were foreei to take into custody Mrs. Sarah Gaddis and cause her detention in police headquarters waiting an investigation into her sanity Mrs. Gaddis, it ia said, has been men tally unbalanced for several weeks but I her ailment only recently took a turn when, it is alleged, she attempted self destruction In Various and sundry ways Thid"; morning policeman MeConnell went to the abode of Mrs Gaddis and with" -assistance caused her removed to pones atatiph. The case is unusually sad. the lady s husband is now, it U said, doing time in South Carolina when he was sent up four yeara ago for a term of sevtn years.. JlerDert uaddis, a son, w;m convicted in Buncombe charged with larceny and sent to the roads. A daugh ter, scarcely more that 14 years of age, has been her mother's sole dependence for weeks if not months. The child. well-raised and hard working, haa now no home; she is denied the privilege of schooling by season of "the illness of her mjtherandof necessity some dim tably disposed person must take the child, raise her, and make of her a use ful member of the community.
