One of the. most brilliant social event
of the season was the reception given
last night by Mr. and Mrs O. Marks at
their home on Pollock St in honor of thi ir
guest Miss Ruth Thomas of Georgia.
The entire lower floor of the resi
dence was beautifully decorated with
flowers of the season end numerous
lanterns were artistically strung among
the varandus. Together with the ar
tistic decorations the elaborate and

grand Opening at Moraheld City
From all over North Carolina and
many cities outside of the State peo
ple arrived at Morehead City yesterday
to attend the grand opening ball which
was held there last night. Each incom
ing train brought in its share of toe
pleasure seekers and it was estimated
that fully three hundred people were

The Atlantic Hotel, Which by the way
is one of the largest and best equipped
in this section was the scene of the
sestivities, and with its corridors and
fovillians lined with beautiful women
shrouded in fascinating gowns the scene
was indeed an entrancing one.
The opening this year was by far
one of the most successful ever held
and the ' management are more than
pleased with the results they have ob
tained from their labors.

cil of State, an extraoidinary occasion
having arisen, I. W. W. Kitchin, Gov
ernor of the State of North Carolina,
in the exercise of the power conferred
on me by the Constitution of the State,
do issue this my proclamation conven
ing the General Assembly in extra
session on Tuesday, the 14th day of
June, 1010, at 11 o'clock a. m., and do
hereby notify and request the Senators
and the members of the House of Rep
resentatives of the General Assembly
of North Carolina to meet in their res
pective halls, in the Capitol in the City
of Raleigh at said time, for the purpose
of considering the emergency resulting
from the inability of the State Treas
urer to sell in accmlahce with Chapter
390, Public Law 1909, entitled "An Act
to authorize the issue of State bonds to
pay off the State bonds which fall due
on the first day of July, 1910, " sufficient
bonds to pay the present outstanding
bonds of the issue of 1880, which mat
ure on July 1, 1910, and of enacting
legislation to enable the State Treasur
er to secure sufficient funds to pay said
last memtioned bond at their maturity

General Assembly all State papers are
requested to publish notice, of the pro
clamation.

VOICE OF THE PEOPLE.
A runaway that came near proving
fatal to the colored driver occurred on
Queen street near the Norfolk South
ern passenger depot yesterday morning.
William Gould, a colored driver had left
his dray near the Coast Line track for
a few minutes while lie slipped down
the street to talk to another drayman.
In his absence the home became frighl-
ened and started off down the street at
a rapid pace., Gould eaw the animal as
he rtsrted off, and by running as faat
sa possible succeeded in climbing on the
dray. When near the Atlantic Coast,
Line depot the horse made a ter riffle
jump and Gould was thrown out on his
head and sustained. serious injury. The
frightened animal was brought to a
standstill by bystanders and Gould was
taken to a physician's office and medi
cal attention rendered him.
