New Firm Locates in New Bern
A new firm which is the first of its
kind to do business in this city has lo
cated in the Blades building at the foot
of Middle street.
Messrs C. Syer and Company the pro
motera of the new enterprise have
opened a grocery supply warehouse for
the wholesalers in New Bera and vicini
ty. This company was formerly locat
ed in Norfolk and is well known in
this section. The firm has an excellent
location and within a few days will have
everything in readiness to begin bus
bees.

Children's Day
Sunday will be observed as Children 'a
Day by the Centenary Methodist
Congregation. At eleven o'clock
the pastor will preach n short
sermon to children and while the sermon
will be especially adopted to children it
will contain matter of interest and help
for both the young and old people of
the congregation.
It ia especially desired that the Sun
day school including all . the children
with their parents, meet with the reg
ular congregation at eleven o'clock to
hear the sermon. The Children's Day
contribution will be made at the Sun
day school in the afternoon.
The night service will be occupied by
the children gving the regular Child
rea's Day program. The music st both
hours will li furnished by the Sunday
school choir.

sales and somewhat lower prices in
Liverpool, this morning, were followed
by a moderate reaction hare today.

curtailment contemplated by New Eng

The local stock here is rapidly de

Wilmington, June 9. With delegates
in attendance from 86 of the 98 counties
of the State, the ninth annual meeting
of the North Carolina Good Road Asso
ciation was held at Tarry moore Hotel,
W rights ville Beach, yesterday, and Dr
Joseph Hyde Pratt, State Geologist and
secretary, than whom there is no bet
ter good road enthusiast in the State,
says that it was the meet pleasant and
profitable as well as the largest attend
ed convention in the history of the or
ganization. The delegates were fired
with enthusiasm and a new de terminal
ion to return to their homes and wage
more vigorous campaign for the im
provement of the highway in their re
spective counties. ' 7t
At 8 o'clock a brief session of the
Good Roads Association was held in the
annex of the Tarrymoore. OfBders for
the ensuing years were elected as fol

The Bodies of Man and Woman
Found in Chicago He Waa
Married
Chicago, June 10 A murder and sui
cide with love as the motive, were re
vealed today by the discovery of the
body of Frank L. Campbell, about 500
feet from s lone spot, where Miss Lena
Hansen was found slain last night.
Miss Hansen was found dead three
blocks from her homo, two bullet
wounus near ner heart. There was no
sign of a robbery or struggle. This
morning Campbell's body was discover
ed; also with two bullet holes near the
heart and by his side a revolver
ing four empty cartridges.

Police investigation disclosed that
Campbell had been devoted to Miss Han-
. She discovered that ho was mar
ried and told him that his attentions
must cease. Campbell, the police say,
followed Miss Hansen when she left her
work last night and when she again re
jected his attention, shot her dead and
ater committed suicide.

In a speech which lasted about an
hour and ten minutes and which was
both interesting and instructing Hon.
Geo. E. Hood of GoMsboro, candidate
for nomination as Representative in
Congress from the Third North Carolina
District delivered his first campaign ad
dress in this city last night at the court
house.
From the opening of his remarks un
til be had completed his speech Hon
Hood had the entire attention of his
audience. He referred to the parly
platform, the part that the working
man should have in the affairs of Stnte
and the tariff and each subject was uhly
explained.
As a public speaker and debater Him
Hood has alway been popular and dur
ing each previous political campaign he
has been calltd upon to present the
cause of Democracy and the result has
always been gratifying to his party and
friends.

and true-blue Democrat loyal to its
principles, having in view the sole oh
juct of his country's good snd the gun
ral welfare of all his fellow-men.
