PHONE 288. GEO . E. HOOD CONGRESS 333 Strong Endorsement From The Press and People From This the Third District I second the nomination of Hon. George E. Hood of Goldsboro as rep resentative in Congress from the Third North Carolina district The time was when real statesmen were comparatively few and the mere mention of the name of one for any certain office or place for which he was qualified was ahmst equivalent to his elevation, to that position; but today we are not forced to search far and wide .for men capable, honest, . honorable, thoroughly qualified and eminently fitt ed in every respect for positions to which they may aspire. And it has al so become customary for a man's friends to place his name, character and qualifications before the public and let the people judge of his fitness for and right to the position to whi h he aspir es. Public office in a public trust, therefore an aspirant seeking to have himself named by the people for such a place of honor or service is likewise seeking to sacrifice himself upon the al tar of devotion to his country and its people by serving them in a way t ha' would best promote his country's great est welfare. I nave known George Hood now for his God, than George Hood has no su perior in the district. I have faith in his ability, and if he is nominated by the congressional con vention 1 believe be can be safely re lied Upon to meet his Republican adver- L aaries on the stamp in joint debate in such manner as to increase the Demo- COTTON PRICES LOWER eratie majority in his district and in crease the true faith of the people in the infallible principles of Democracy.
