""There were also several other floats entered in the parade but it was impossible to get the names of tb sub jects at the hour of going to press. After traversing several of the streets in the business section of the city the parade wended its way down Broad street in front of the grandstand where the judges , were stationed. As the floats came- abreast of, the judges stand each of them was halted for a moment and carefully inspected. ' After the 'parade had passed by the judges endeavored to decide to whom the prices should be awarded but were unable to do so and the matter was continued until this morning. State Volunteer Firemen's Association met at the New Masonic Opera Bouse at 11a. m. ; 5 ii There was a large attendance at the opera house of delegates, and full inter est taken in all the proceedings. Second Vice President Chief Bernard, of Ashe Ville, presided. J. Ii. Miller, Secretary. After the opening prayer by Rev. C. CCreavea, Mr. G. V. Richardson in troduced S. M Brioson who made the speech of weloome in a most happy manner, responses to it were made by Chief Bernard, of Asheville, chief Clark of Southern Pines, and Chief Turner of Concord. 'The following credential committee was appointed: Chiefs, Schinbben of Wilmington, Hoory, of High Point, Lumsden of Raleigh, Brown of Salis bury, King of Goldsboro. At 2 pm the Convention was called to order by President J. D. McNeill, who explained his absence at the morn ing Session it being due to his attend ance at the Industrial parade. Yesterday, the Becond day of the Bi centennial dawned bright and fair and the thousands of visitors who are in the city were out on the streets bright and early to see all that was going on. At lWSO o'clock the great floral and industrial parade, upon which the eyes of the whole populace has been cent ered during the past few weeks, began to form at the corner nf Broad and Middle streets, and at eleven o'clock they started out on their journey around the city. First came a squad of police and they made a very creditable showing in deed. Following the police was the second Regiment hand and the music rendered was enjoyed by all. Following the band came 600 memb ers of the second regiment, and the showing made by them was very cred itable. Th following list of floatu participa ted which followed the soldiers: New Bern Naval Reserves, "Pamlico" Cut ter's float. Naval Reserves float. Woodmen of the World, 3 floats, Old Time Fiddlers, Grocer) float, Royal Ar canum. New Bern Cotton Oil Company, Coca Cola bottling company, John Bell cigar, Pugh & Brooks, Cutler- Blades hardware company, Jacobs & Co. John Suter & Son, J S Miller, Meadows mt rineiailway, Meadows fertilizer, Nw Bern building and supply company, J S Basnight, J S Shackley dairy. New Bern iron Works. Pine lumber comDa' ny and Coplon's dry goods store. The parade was several blocks long and consumed about twenty minutes in passing. Capt. J. D. McNeill, of Fayette ville, bapt. stokes and A. H- boyden were tippointed judges and after they had carefully reviewed the entire parade they decided that Mrs. V. A. Under wood was entitled to first prize and that Miss Julia Bryan Jones was the winner of the second prize in the floral parade. Jacobs & Co's. float won the first prize in the industrial parade, and the New Bern Iron works came in second. There were very few outside entries, and the local entries had the advantage of the few who did enter by being bet ter equipped. Ribbons in all shades and widths for the firemen colors this week. J. The Democrats of the Fifth Congressional District met in adjourned session today, which was without special incident.
