Miss Foster, bai appeared in this city at various times with the Hal Mordaunt Stock -Company and it will be remem bered that she has a voice of exception al sweetness overnor of the State And Many i Other Prominent Officials - Will Participate. I A little' more than a year ago Con gress appropriated a' sum of money to e used in digging the Inland Water way from Adams Creek to Beaufort short time after this appropriation had been made and the contract for the worn awarded, two large dredges be gan the stupendous task of cutting through a number of miles of land in irder to make a passagewry from HeuM river direct to the ocean, via jpeaufort. This was a stupendous task and much time was consumed, but on the Isth of last November the last link of Intervening land waa cut out and North Carolina's most valuable waterway was complete. At that time, although there was a large crowd present to see the waters of the river and wean meet, it was impossible to fittingly celebrate the momentous occasion. The citizens living along the route of the canal how- ve-, had already decided to male some demonstration of their appreciation of this improverr ent, and after a consults tion they decided to give an oyster roast at some point along the waterway on the 6th of Jan. 1911. With this end in view they began to send out invitations to all of the most prominent people in the State, and also to all of the members of Congress. Practically all of the recipients of these invitations accepted and 'the gathering will, besides being one of the largest that has ever visited that, locality, be one of the most notable. The revenue Hjter "Paml:co," which is located at this port will leave for Elizabeth City a few days prior to the event for the purpose of transporting the Congress tonal committee to th point at which the celebrat'on will take place. The Naval Reserves' boat, the "El frida" will go from this port and it is more than probable that . the torpedo boat "Du Pont" will also attend the ceremonies. During the day numerous speeches will be made by some of the most prom inent visitors and in fact the occasion will be a real gala day for all who attend. SOCIETY Bridge Club Entertained.
