At yesterday's seisionthe following cases were dis posed of: State1 vs J. . Goaley, of Bridgeton, charged with false pretense the jury rendered a verdict of not guilty. ' State vs Matthew Williams charged with I retailing, found guilty and sen tenced to server term of 3 months ' on the county'roada. State vs Bud Green, charged with resisting arrest, found guilty and sen tenced to serve 30 days on the county roads. Daniels Newberry Live Stock Co. South Front St. High Price Cotton Closes Them. Mobile, A.U., June 16. The Mobile Cotton Mill Company, employing 150 hands, has shut down its plant. The Kasker Cotton Mill, employing 50) hands, will work on a four days a week basis. On account of the .high price of eot- ton, which it is stated, makes it impos sible to operate at a profit, the Monla'a cotton mills, with ten thousand spin dles, and the Montgomery Cordage Co., using 125 bales of cotton a month, have olosed their plants for the summer. They will not resume until the new crop is harvested in tha fall. It is staled that two mills at Selmn, Ala., and one at Florence, Ala. have suspended operations for similar reas ons, and that the mills at Avondsle, I Ala., and Columbus, Ga., are running on short time. Yesterday morning John Furlo we, colonel was iried in the Superior Court for retailing. J, E. Esson and J. D. Erwin, two young white men from Kinston were the ' principal witnesses m the ease. After tbe jury had weigh ed the evidence they rendered a verdict batte defendant was not guilty and he was releasad f rom custody. He was at once placed under arrest by a gov ernment officer on a ' warrant charging bim with retailing without government license. He was curried Jbef ore Commissioner Chaa. B. Hill yesterday afternoon and given a preliminary bearing. The opening ball, following ths usual custom will be given tonight, June 17. The spacious ball room has been beau tifully decorated especially for tha occasion. Washington's Oldest Doctor Dead. Washington, N. C, June 16-Dr. William A. Blount, Wasington's oldest practicing physician and one of oar most influential and well beloved Citi zens is dead at fits home on Second street Dr. Blount was taken sudden ly III Tuesday, and although everything possible that medical skill could accom-i pliab was tried In vain.
