Co Booently Elected Governor Hoke Smith Will Make Hard Fight . For Senator Terrell's Toga. Washington, June 29. Unusual in terest is manifested in Democratic pol iticul circles here in the Senatorial fight in tin legis'ature which will take place io Georgia on July 10th to decide whetb -er Hon. Joseph Meriwether Terrell shall continue to represent the State in the' Senate of the United States or be succeeded by Hon. Hoke Smith, former governor of Georgia and the present governor-elect. As is well known, Senator Terrell was appointed by Governor Brown to fill out the unexpired term ofthe late Senator A. S. Clay. - During' nearly all of his service Senator Terrell has been in very poor health, as he had a stroke of pa ralysis which has sadly interfered with his locomotion, and it is with much dif ficulty trat he can get about. Hia men tality, however, has not been weaken ed, and the report is that he and his supporters are going to put up a strong tiattle at the primary, and have been confidently claiming that they will van quish former Governor Hoke Smith. Under Auspices Chamber of Com merce. Cigars and Iiefiesh menta Served Free "Join the Chamber of Commerce and. Boost New Bern" will be the bat tle cry for the next week. No city in North Carolina can offer such excep 1 tional advantages as New Bern. Why not let the world know a'xmt it. This work cannot be carried on by the pres ent membership of the Chamber of Commerce. Every citizen of Craven county who is really interested in the advancement of the county should be a member of this organization. Join the organization and be a booster. There are over one hundred enthusi istic members of the Chamber of Commerce today. A city the size of New BuTn shoufd have three or four hundred. Come out to the court heuse tonight and take part in the gigantic movement to put New Bern to the forefron . in this movement that is revolutionizing the southland. Come out, smoko the -cigars, partake of the refresh -nents and "Hava good time." The speeches will all be short and snappy. No one will speak over ten minutes. If you have anything in your system along the line of boosting New Bern, just jump up and say it but r'on't take too long. There may be another brother who would like to testify. Mr. Homer D. Wade, Fresident of the Texas Commercial Secretaries As sociation who is cjnsidere i one of the great e it authorities in this country in Chamber of Commerce work in refer ring to how an effi.-ient Charr.ler of Commerce should be run, guys, "I will not name an arbitrary amount of money that shou'd be annually in vested ?n a business organization (Chamber of Commerce), as the size of the town and the amount of we ilth in the the town will indicate this. I wdl fay, hewjver, that little or n ef fective work can be done on less than $3,000 per year, and the rrore money invested, the greater the results will be." New Bern needs at least 13.000 a ye ir to let the world know that it is not only on the map but that it has a climate unsurpassed and that its re sources are far superior to many cities many times is size. Mr. Citizen, come out to the Court House tonight and hear what other cities ore doing and what New Bern can do. Put your Bhoul.'er to the wheel and give a hearty pmh.
