J r . Raleigh, July. 5 Hon. Honry Clay Brown,-a member of the' North Caro lina Corporation Commission died here Tuesday, Jury 4th. After an 111mm lasting from May. 20th. His death has been expected at any time for the past three days. He died of cancer of the stomach and many think that a severe attack of typhoid fever that he under went two years ago left some germ of infection that at last developed into this fatal illness. It was as successor to the lamented BFAjeockthat Mr. Brown was first appointed on the commission. May 6, 1910, after he had given to the commis sion service ai secretary since loai. that eminently equipped him to the commissionership and won for him the universal verdict or Deicg equipped man for the plaat)' be found for the conuniask m He was appointed secretary V JU old railroai commissions in 1891, ta tinuing in this position with the railroad commission and the re-organtzed cor poration commission up to the time he was appointed commissioner by Gov ernor Kitchin.Fol owing his appointment May 6th, :910, he was nominated in the State Democratic convention in July and elected in November and was filling out his hrat elective term at the time of his death. Me was married to Miss Mollie Mer ritt, of Pittsboro in November, 18S3 and she and two brothers and a Bister suivive him. They are J Milton Brown, Altu rmale; Dr. J R Brown, Knoxville. Tenn . and Mrs. E M Woodburn, Ral eigh. The funrral was held from Edenton Str et Methodist church at 6 o'clock tli in afternoon. The active pall bearers were Joseph G Brown. C J Hunter, ft S Jdrman, RC Strong, Chas. E John son, S Brown Shepherd, W A Linehan and Dr. Geo, Syme, The State offiaers were honorary pall-bearers. Tuesday night some unknown person broke into Bud Blounts's store in Du ffytown and after ransacking the store and failing to find anything that suited their fancy took a small iron safe in which Blount was supposed to keep his money and carried it out into the yard in the rear of the store for the purpose of opening it. A policeman heard the no ire then marauder made in leaving and began an inve .tigution. The result was the thief heard the policeman and fear ing that he would be captured, took to his hjelg and left his booty.
