ture of "lumber" from paper. :

ber can be manufactured cheaper than
natural lumber can be grown,"- jie

Taking 57 percent, waste paper, 22
per cent, straw. 5 percent jute and 16
percent, wood fibre, a ton of .fibjre
board, one-fourth inch thick of 1,100
feet of inch lumber can be produced."

ible supply of cotton issued yesterday
shows the total visible to he 1,921,700
bales against 1,697,944 last week and
1, 776, lZilast year. Of this the total of
AmericarV cotton is 1.265.700 bales
against 1,011,944 last Week and 972,133
last year, and 1,766,928 year be
fore last, and of all other kinds, in
cluding Egypt. Brazil, India, etc.. 665,
000 bales against 786.000 last week and
601,000 last year.
Of the world's visible supply of cot
ton there is now afloat and held in
Great Britain and continental Europe
919.000 against 851.000 last year; in
Egypt 34.000 against 3 J, 000 last year:
in India 373, 00 against 328.000 last
year, and in the United States 596,000
against 355,000 last year.

Shade Wooten Dead.
LaGrange Sept. 23-Mr. Shade Wont
en, Sr., died suddenly in this city yes-
terday afternoon of heart failure. He;
was 72 years of age ar d leaves a large
family. His death removes from our
community a moaf remarkable ctiaraet
er. For four years Mr. Wooten frave
of his best young manhood to his coun
try in the civil war, and wai seriously,
thought to be fatally, wounded in
thejiead. After returning to his farm
in Greene county, he had the misfortune
lo lose one of his hands.. Notwith
standing all these obstacles, he has

gageu in business for a number of
years and was successful.
Mr. Weoten wan prominent through

in the general assembly of 1903.
